by Geoffrey Ciani – When the announcement was made that IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek was going to test the waters in the heavyweight division by taking on former four-time world title challenger Andrew Golota, many questioned the wisdom behind this decision. After all, Adamek had only competed for two years as a cruiserweight and had already moved up in size considerably from the 175 pound weight class. Even though Golota was old and past his best, he was still a big guy with a strong punch. Many observers wondered how Adamek could possibly cope with an experienced veteran the size of Golota.

Adamek proved his detractors wrong and made easy work of Golota stopping him in five rounds. This victory helped establish Adamek as a real player in the heavyweight landscape, but he still had his fair share of doubters. Adamek has since continued to silence his critics and move his way up through the heavyweight rankings by scoring noteworthy victories over Jason Estrada and Chris Arreola. Adamek (41-1, 27 KOs) now has his eyes set on what will quite literally be his biggest challenge to date when he faces 6’7” Michael Grant (46-3, 34 KOs) on August 21 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The contest has fittingly been dubbed “The Big Challenge”.

Today’s press conference was held at the Global Boxing Gym in North Bergen, New Jersey. It was a fan-friendly relaxed environment. Before things began, Adamek could be seen near the entrance signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. Michael Grant was nowhere to be seen.

At the start of the proceedings, artist and long time boxing fan John Murawski presented Adamek with a gift. It was an oil painting by Murawski that portrayed the Polish pugilist doing pad work.

After Adamek finished admiring his new art work, Kathy Duva informed everyone that Michael Grant would not be in attendance. He did, however, phone in from Las Vegas. Unfortunately, technical difficulties prevented Grant from participating. He gave a brief statement about the fight, but his words were essentially inaudible. Duva jokingly quipped, “Best laid plans”.

Adamek’s trainer Roger Bloodworth talked about the importance of this fight. He talked about Grant’s size, his long reach, and his good right hand and noted that Grant has now won his last eight fights and has not lost since 2003. He stressed the fact that they are not underestimating him and that they are prepared for the task at hand.

Adamek spoke briefly and mentioned that he was excited to return to the Prudential Center on August 21. He also mentioned that he is ready for the fight and that he ultimately has his eyes set on the big prize—a portion of the heavyweight title.

Tickets for the fight are priced at $53, $78, $103, and $253 and can be purchased at the Prudential Center Box Office by calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000 or www.Prucenter.com

The fight will also be available live on pay per view.

The Johnny Eames and Derek Grainger, from the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, organised Boxer & Celebrity Football Tournament proved to be a massive success. The stars turned out in force, as did the paying public to watch the ten teams battle it out for the Ultrachem TKO Indee Rose Trophy.

Almost 200 celebrities, from Boxing, Football, Music, Film, TV and the National Press, made the trip to Canvey Island, Essex to take part in the event, which raised in excess of £20,000 for the Indee Rose Trust.

Notable in their efforts to participate are the Willie Limond’s Bravehearts, who flew down from Scotland, Alan ‘Alio’ Wilton’s ‘Team Alio’, whose fourteen hour journey involved crossing the Irish Sea by ferry to Scotland and then a long drive south, Paul Smith’s Pickpockets, who not only drove down from Liverpool but drove back home straight after the final, and David Leigh who finished work, in Sheffield at 3am, grabbed an early train to London and then to Essex. But the Long Distance award has to go to Rock Legend Steve Harris of Iron Maiden who flew in from America just for the event! What’s more each did this at their own expense and paid £20 for the pleasure of playing in the tournament!

The day started off with with the draw, which saw League One made up of Ultrachem TKO Clapton Rangers, Iron Maiden, Paul Smith’s Pickpockets, Graham Earl’s House of Champions and Willie Limond’s Bravehearts. Whilst League Two consisted of Ultrachem TKO Gym, Jimmy Mac’s Mashers, Steve Lillis’ Reporters, Team Alio and the Ultrachem TKO Indee Rose team.

Group stage highlights: 9-A-Side.

League One: On paper Ultrachem TKO Clapton Rangers were favourites, having been hastily put together by Johnny Eames’ former pro footballer son Ritchie following Gavin Reece’s Welsh Wizards withdrawing just days before the tournament. Ritchie, who as a youth played for West Ham, Tottenham Hotspurs and Barnet, hit the phones and put together a team littered with former pros.

They looked set to steam roll their way into the final following an impressive 3-1 win over Iron Maiden followed by a win over Willie Limond’s Bravehearts. Their next opponents were Paul Smith’s Pickpockets, who had beaten Graham Earl’s House of Champions 1-0. Much to everyone’s surprise the boxing scousers dominated the game ending up 2-0 victors.

The scouse juggernaut rolled right through Willie Limond’s Bravehearts and then fought out a wild final group match against Iron Maiden. This was without doubt the game of League Two. It was tight and competitive. Iron Maiden took the lead twice, each time the fiercely competitive ‘Pickpockets’ fought hard to even the score within minutes. With the game deadlocked at two a piece and just three minutes left on the clock Paul Smith lead a storming charge which ended with a the ball rocketing into the Iron Maidens net. It was then all hands on deck, for the scousers, to repel the constant barrage of shots from the orange army of Iron Maiden. The 3-2 victory over Iron Maiden firmly secured a spot in the final for Paul Smith’s Pickpockets.

League Two: There was no clear favourite for the second group before the matches started. Once they got underway both the Ultrachem TKO Gym and Ultrachem TKO Indee Rose Trust teams and Team Alio showed that they had what it takes to go all the way.

Alan Wilton’s Team Alio were the first to lose their unbeaten status following a tight game against the Ultrachem TKO Gym team. Team Alio were unfortunate to concede a late goal from on-form striker, Commonwealth Middleweight Champion, Wayne Elcock.

League Two suddenly became a two horse race with Ultrachem TKO Indee Rose Trust continuing their unbeaten run with a convincing 2-0 victory over Steve Lillis team of Journos. Steve’s attempt to add some striking power to his ailing team, which had yet to score a single goal, by poaching David Haye’s manager/coach from the Ultrachem TKO Gym team had failed. They had one game still to play but as that was against Jimmy Mac’s Mashers the chances of them not picking up the event’s wooden spoon looked seriously slim.

The Ultrachem TKO Indee Rose Trust Team went on to beat Team Alio 2-1 in a highly competitive game that saw the only penalty of the competition being awarded. Luckily for the Ultrachem TKO Gym Indee Rose Team they had the excellent Ali Adams in goal.

Their next game, against the also unbeaten Ultrachem TKO Gym team, would decide who would face Paul Smith’s Pickpockets. Once again Wayne Elcock again proved to be the decisive element. His single goal securing the victory, and a place in the final, for the Ultrachem TKO Gym team.

The final League Two game, between Team Alio and Jimmy Mac’s Mashers, produced the goal of the tournament. With just minutes to go ‘til the final whistle Rock superstar Johnny Borrell put through a superb ball to Light Welterweight Ben ‘The Entertainer’ Day. Ben, who was primed for a professional football career before discovering his love of boxing, took the beautifully weighted cross in his stride to volley the ball into the top corner of the net to secure the win.

Prior to the final event MC Bob Williams turned auctioneer for the fabulous array of donated boxing memorabilia. Bob, who had stopped in at the last minute, received a lot of praise from the organisers for his commentating skills. During the group stages Bob had managed to keep the crowd fully informed by giving a running commentary on two games simultaneously!

The Final: The format of the final was changed to teams being eleven a side and played on the full pitch.

Paul Smith’s Pickpockets ready to take on the might of the Ultrachem TKO Gym and their super striker Wayne Elcock. Paul lead his team out on to the pitch first. Moments later the crowd roared as WBA Heavyweight Champion David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye lead out the star studded Ultrachem TKO Gym team.

Just prior to the kickoff Paul Smith, who had generously offered to host next years event in Liverpool, said “We’re gonna win it. My team’s proved they can win this. There’s a few tasty boxers on their side, so we don’t want to see any heavy tackles going in. It’s been a great day, it’s been fun and hopefully we’ve raised a lot of money for a very, very good cause.

The next event is going to be in Liverpool. We already offered to organise the next event so Johnny’s boys will have to come up to Liverpool to try and win the trophy back.”

Co-manager of the Ultrachem TKO Gym, Billy Joe Saunders, responded with “Paul’s team is going to get completely smashed by the Ultrachem TKO Gym in the final”

With fighting talk out of the way the two teams lined up. The Merseysiders dominated the early proceedings, keeping the ball in their opponents half for extended periods. The game suddenly turned, following a determined tackle by Georgie Hillyard, which lead to a flurry of heavy tackles from both sides before the ref regained his authority.

Moments later a beautiful searching ball found Paul Smith with some space and just the goalkeeper in his way. In a flash Paul punished his hosts with a beautifully taken goal.

Just a few minutes later, following a free kick, the ball again found it’s way into the Ultrachem TKO Gym goal, only to be disallowed due to a blatant push on the already leaping goalkeeper.

The second half started off more or less the same as the first, albeit with the Ultrachem TKO Gym team being the dominating force. Super striker Wayne Elcock, who was clearly intent on keeping his record of scoring in every game, worked his socks off. Shooting at every opportunity only to see his efforts thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping.

With just five minutes to go it looked that Wayne was to finally keep his record. A beautiful cross found him in a completely unmarked position. Wayne leapt up to delicately chip the ball over the keeper. It looked a sure equaliser, but alas it was not to be, the ball just didn’t want to drop and skimmed just the wrong side of the cross bar

Few chances came after this for either team and the game ended with the single goal, in favour of Paul Smith’s Pickpockets, being the difference between the teams.

On receiving the Ultrachem TKO Gym Indee Rose Trust Trophy Smithy said, “We only went and won it didn’t we. I said along we’d win it.

Johnny’ll have to come up to us now to try and take our trophy off us.

It was a great day, brilliantly organised, good turn out. It was great to be part of it.

We were up at 5 O’Clock this morning to drive down from Liverpool. We’re happy to come down to support such a worthy charity. Can’t wait for next year.”

Notable mentions:

Goal of the tournament – Ben ‘The Entertainer’ Day from Jimmy Mac’s Mashers for his premiership quality goal.

Golden Boot - Wayne Elcock who not only scored all the Ultrachem TKO goals – but scored nearly twice as many as his nearest opposition!

Star of the day – RICKY HATTON – who not only played every game for the Ultrachem TKO GYM team, but when not playing spent his time signing autographs and being photographed with someone or another. Ricky also supplied top class memorabilia for the charity auction.

Ross Minter, Kevin Mitchell, Wayne Elcock, Graham Earl, Tony Oakey, Paul Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Johnny Borrell, Steve Harris, Mark Wingett, Paul Smith and many many more of the celebrities, weren’t far behind Ricky for this accolade, they also spent much of their free time signing autographs and being photographed with members of the public.

Steve Lillis and his National Journalist Team pick up the wooden spoon having not won a game or score a single goal!

Final word on the day has to go to co-organiser Johnny Eames, of the Ultrachem TKO Gym, who said,”First of all I want to say a big thank you to all concerned, Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Paul Smith, Alio, Graham Earl, Willie Limond, Jimmy Mac and obviously my own team from the gym, and an absolute big thank you to a rock legend Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris, who flew all the way in from America on the day. Landed on the day and came and played four games, he got beaten in two but did play really, really well, gave four excellent games and stayed after signing autographs. Absolutely a rock legend giving up his time and coming and play for a charity he knows very little about. That’s just amazing, just shows you what great people there are about.

I’m so pleased for Russell and Jane, they’re the parents of young Indee. None of us could bear thinking about the time they must have had and what they had to endure to get through the situation they found themselves in. It must have been unbearable, but listen you’re doing a great job to help other children and families who find themselves in the same situation you were in.

As I said before Ultrachem TKO will be there for you running a similar event for you. Hopefully bigger next year if we can find a big backer. I’m sure there are potential backers out there who have seen what the boxing world can do and hope that they’ll come along and sponsor next years event.

Paul Smith’s boys are going to put it on in Liverpool next year. It should be a great day as I know Paul and the boys will do us proud.

I forgot about the news reporters, how can I forget them, they came with the worse team. They showed they were the worse team, they played four, lost four and scored none with eight against, but that doesn’t mean a thing as they’re great sportsmen. You write a good sports article and you’re good sportsmen. Love everyone of you. See ya all next year.

I just want to run through those that paid a £500 donation, to the charity, to have their name on the team shirts. They had the company elements on the front of the kits.

We’ll start off with a big thank you to SGS Scaffolding, Steve Goodwin’s Promotions, Durrance & Co ltd, who is one of my fighters, Matthew Marsh’s, personal sponsor. Barking Brickwork, Ricky Mann’s Waste, Ricky Mann’s a good friend of mine. Insight Group Plc, that’s the Iron Maiden themselves, who as I said I couldn’t thank them enough. Docklands Marquees, Richard Mason fantastic guy who also supplied some of the marquees on the day. Nuttels, who are Derek Grainger’s friends. Thank you very much to yourselves. Get solutions, I don’t know who they are but thank you for your great sponsorship. Finally big thanks to Becky at Thorough Breads. You did us proud. Thank you all.

Next year it’s Liverpool and we’ll be aiming to double the money raised for the Indee Rose Trust at that event.”

By Philip Michael Shange – Come Sept. 25, Allan Green will be the new WBC king – at least according to himself.

Champion Mikkel Kessler will defend his throne in Denmark against Green in the third stage of Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic. And the challenger is looking for the knockout.

“I don’t see Kessler lasting the whole fight,” Green (29-2, 20 KOs) told Danish TV-station TV2. “Unless he brings something new to the table.”

Green – who entered the tournament as a late replacement for Jermain Taylor – is coming off a lopsided defeat to WBA champion Andre Ward. Despite the loss, Green is still in the running for a semifinal berth..

“That’s what I’m looking for,” he said. Mathematically, Green still has a shot. A knockout victory gives the winner three points, whereas a decision win yields only two. Five of the six participants are deadlocked at two points apiece, so he must claim the title by knockout.

But Green is facing some tough odds.

The iron-jawed Dane has never been stopped before – nor has he ever hit the canvas. Aside from the knockout factor, the odds get increasingly grimmer when one consider the fact that no visiting fighter has yet to pick up a victory in the Showtime tournament.

So if history is any indication, Green will leave Denmark empty-handed. Still, Green said home-field advantage will play no role in the matchup.

“It doesn’t matter to me where I fight,” he said. “In my opinion, it’s a coincidence that all the fighters fighting at home have won every fight. I have no problem coming to Denmark to face the champion of the world.”
Champion Kessler (43-2, 32 KOs) is coming off a Fight of the Year-candidate against Carl Froch in which he recaptured the WBC belt.

Before that epic matchup, Kessler, 31, had lost the WBA portion of the super middleweight title to Ward on technical decision.
The modified round-robin tournament includes a total of six top super middleweights including titlist Ward, former titlist Carl Froch, former middleweight champion Arthur Abraham and 2004 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Andre Dirrell. Former undisputed middleweight champion, Taylor, withdrew after suffering brutal knockouts in consecutive fights.

WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has started his training camp for the crucial Super Six showdown with Allan Green. The Viking Warrior will take on his American opponent in Denmark on September 25 at a venue to be announced. This week, star coach Jimmy Montoya returned from his home base in Los Angeles to Copenhagen to prepare Denmarks national hero for the Super Six showdown. They will move camp to Team Sauerlands headquarters in Berlin shortly. “The fun part is over for Mikkel,” Montoya said. “He got his well-deserved rest after the fight against Froch but it will be blood, sweat and tears for him from now on. I was pleased with his performance against Froch but there is still a lot more to come from him. I expect him to get even better against Green..”

In one of the most dramatic fights in recent years, Kessler clinched a unanimous points victory over Carl “The Cobra” Froch to clinch his first victory in the Super Six World Boxing Classic.

“It was a great fight and I was very happy to become world champion again,” Kessler said. “I had a good rest and a great vacation but now I am back in the gym to prepare for Allan Green. There is a lot at stake – not just my world title but also the qualification for the semi-finals. I need a victory on September 25 and together with Jimmy and my team I will defeat Green!”

The decisive clash between Kessler and Green will again be televised live by Viasat. PPV and ticket information will be available shortly.

King Arthur Abraham welcomed a special guest on Monday when German Chancellor Angela Merkel stopped by to visit the renowned training facilities in Kienbaum. Hundreds of world-class athletes, including dozens of Olympic gold medal winners and world champions, use the sports center each year to prepare for their events. Team Sauerland also stages its training camps in Kienbaum, which is located 20 miles east of Berlin. Ulli Wegner and his fighters will return on July 28, moving camp from the Max-Schmeling-Gym to the sports center.

Merkel, who honoured Kienbaum with a special award, enjoyed meeting Germany´s top athletes. King Arthur even had a special present for the Chancellor. “I gave her a pair of mini gloves, which she promised to keep in a very special place inside her office,” King Arthur said. “I hope the gloves bring her luck – in politics, you sometimes have to box your way through. It was a great honour to meet the Chancellor. We spoke about a lot of interesting things.”

LONDON (22th July) Carl “the Cobra” Froch will be joining up with highly regarded trainer Rob McCracken at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Monday morning (26th) to start his intensive 10 week training camp ahead of his crucial Super Six Group Stage 3 face off against the German based Armenian “King” Arthur Abraham. It was officially announced last week that the last of the Super Six group stage matches will take place in the swanky surroundings of the world’s 2nd smallest country, Principality of Monaco, at the fabulous Chapiteau de l’Espace venue in the ward of Fontvieille, on Saturday 2nd October.

Both Super Six participants will be looking to finish the group stages on a high and guarantee a spot in the Semi Finals, tentatively slated for the first quarter 2011.

Froch who became a proud new father for the first time in June said: “It will be hard leaving my family for such a long time, but to make sure I secure a semi final place in the Super Six I have to get away from all distractions, concentrate, and make sure my preparations are spot-on this time, I cannot afford to leave any stone unturned.”

“The Institute of Sport is an excellent training facility; I could travel the world and still not find a camp that is better equipped, this also gives me the added motivation as I will be training alongside some of the Country’s fittest and best amateur boxers, who certainly keep me on my toes.”

Promoter Mick Hennessy said “This fight has all the ingredients to be talked about for many years to come, just like the Hagler vs. Hearns showdown, it’s an exciting matchup between two of the world’s very best punchers and it is sure to be explosive, it’s being held at a fabulous venue and a very fitting location for a marquee fight like this. What else could you ask for?”

Carl Froch added a message to his eager and loyal fans “I have been told that tickets should be on sale in early August, all of the up to date information will be posted on the Hennessy Sports website and released via a press release as soon as it is available”

Today Ultrachem TKO boss Johnny Eames announced the teams that will be taking part in the Celebrity Football Tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, at Brockwell Stadium, Canvey Island, Essex, this coming Sunday.

There will be ten teams taking part in the nine-a-side tournament playing under a two league format. All teams play four times within the league system followed by an eleven-a-side final between the winners of each league.

Ultrachem TKO Team 1, which is managed by head honcho Johnny Eames includes former undisputed Light Welterweight champion Ricky Hatton and WBA Heavyweight Champion of the World David Haye heading up a star studded lineup that includes David Haye’s manager and coach Adam Booth, Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, Matthew Marsh, Derek Grainger, Wayne Elcock, Olympian Billy Joe Saunders, George Hillyard, Billy Morgan as well as a couple of ringers in former Crystal Palace footballers Tommy & Michael Black.

Ringers, in the form of ex-pro footballers seem to be quite a feature of the tournament. It appears that almost every team has secured a little professional assistance to ensure that the infamous Willie Limond’s “Bravehearts” , who at the previous Ultrachem TKO Gym Charity Football Tournament fielded a team littered with former Scottish Premiership players, do not get to lift the trophy.

Prime example of the infiltration of former pro footballers is the Ultrachem TKO Team 2, which is managed by Craig Burns & ‘Our’ Monty. In all fairness though it should be said that the Ultrachem TKO Gym’s second team was hastily put together, following Gavin Rees’ Welsh Wizards having pulled out earlier this week. Gym owner’s son Ritchie Eames, who played for West Ham, Tottenham Hotspurs and Barnet as a youth, and the aforementioned Monty, hit the phones to put together a replacement team, consisting of mainly Ritchie’s former pro football mates, at very short notice.

Ultrachem TKO Gym/Indee Rose Trust Team, which is managed by Martin Stewart, has been a little better behaved and features a host of boxers and celebrities including former WBU Light Heavyweight World Champion Tony ‘Oakey Kokey’ Oakey, Lightweight Contender Kevin Mitchell, British Light Middleweight Champion, Sam Webb, unbeaten Light Middleweight ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese, ‘Pretty’ Ricky Boylan, George Keen, Lee Cook, former British Light Middleweight Champion Gary Woolcombe, Bradley Skeet, Akaash ‘Kash The Bash’ Bhatia, Mark Wingett (Jim Carver – The Bill), Andrew Tiernan (Prime Suspect, 300, Cracker) and Heavyweight Contender Ali Adams amongst others.

Another team not to rely on any professional assistance are the Sports Writers Team, lead by Player/Manager Steve Lillis (News of the World) and featuring top UK boxing promoter Frank Maloney, Sports Network’s matchmaker Dean Powell, Sky Sports presenter Ed Robinson, Boxing News’ Tris Dixon & Matt Christie, actors Gerald Kerns & Ciaren Griffiths (Shameless), Stephen Bell (former pro boxer now Coronation Street star), Olympic boxer Tony Jeffries plus a motley crew of top British sports writers.

Paul Smith’s Mickey Mousers Team, who’re managed by Paul Smith Snr, make the long journey south with a squad that includes Paul Smith (British Super Middleweight Champion), Stephen Smith (Commonwealth Super Featherweight contender), Callam & Liam Smith (Unbeaten pros), Paul Edwards (unbeaten Super Flyweight contender) plus a fair sprinkling of Scouse ringers.

Willie Limond’s “Bravehearts”, lead by player/manager WBU World Champion Willie Limond, seems to again feature a selection of former Scottish Premiership players. Although in fairness Limond does include Kevin and Raymond Limond, Jason Hastie and British Super Featherweight Champion Craige Docherty from the world of boxing.

Graham Earl’s House Of Champions, lead by player/manager former WBU Lightweight World Champion Graham Earl, are a bit more up front having named Lui Field & James Smith, (Luton Town Youth), Rory Smith (Dunstable Town), Alvin Rajadarmi (Greys Athletic), along with the cream of Luton, Bedfordshire’s amateur boxing stars, in his squad.

Ireland’s Team Alio, managed by “Iron” Mike Tyson’s sparring partner ‘Big’ Joe Egan & Alan ‘Alio’ Wilton, have named Luke Wilton (British Flyweight Contender), Aran Wilton, Matthew Wilton, Stevie Quinn (former Super Bantamweight contender), Steve Quinn Jnr, Ben Little, Lloyd Abbott, John McCaughey, Garreth Thompson, Paul McCausland, Mark Gamble, James Paisley (Former Ultrachem TKO fighter) and a dodgy sounding (Jon Joe) Renaldo amongst the team to cross the Irish Sea to take part.

Jimmy Mack’s Mashers, managed by Alec Wilkey, is heavily boxing biased with Lewis Pettit (unbeaten Super Bantamweight), Jimmy McDonald (former Featherweight World Champion), Cassius Conner (Unbeaten Welterweight) and Light Welterweight Ben ‘The Entertainer’ Day heading up their squad. Now whilst Mr Day may not technically class as a ringer, being a pro boxer, I have it on good authority that he chose boxing over a highly promising footballing career.

Last but not least Team Iron Maiden, who unfortunately will not be featuring the anticipated ringer of all ringers, former West Ham, Spurs, Man Utd and England striker, Teddy Sheringham due to him suffering a knee ligament injury, have left the organisers totally in the dark, and unable to check for suspected ringers, by submitting the following team list – R Wilson, N McCabe, C Rowlatt, J McCabe, V Nicoll, D Rowlatt, T Larkin, T Newton, R Verschoyle, K Hoad, G Harris, A Monagle, J Lovell, J Lovell, C J Rowlatt, J Mann, J Shakey, L McCabe.

Following the on-pitch action there will be a Boxing Memorabilia Auction – featuring items donated by the stars taking part as well as some of the famous boxers, such as undefeated and undisputed Champion of the World Joe Calzaghe, who were unable to make it on the day.

The Ultrachem TKO Gym Boxers & Celebrity Football Tournament, in aid of The Indee Rose Trust will be at the Brockwell Stadium, Canvey Island on Sunday 25th July 2010. Kick-off will be a 12:00 Noon.

Tickets are priced:

Adults: £10.00
Children: £5.00

Tickets are available on the day at Canvey Island FC and are also still available until 2pm Saturday from The Ultrachem TKO Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA – Tel: 0207 474 3199

NEW YORK (July 15, 2010)–Following weeks of intense negotiations, SHOWTIME Sports® is proud to announce that Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event—the promotional outlets for world-class super middleweight boxers Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham—have agreed to a location for their fighters’ crucial Super Six World Boxing Classic bout. On Saturday, Oct. 2, in the capital city/state of Monaco, Abraham and Froch will meet at the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille for their pivotal Group Stage 3 match up in the boxing tournament that has ignited the industry. The bout will be televised on SHOWTIME® at 9 p.m. ET/PT (same day delay). The fight will also be televised live on UK TV from approximately 10pm..

Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event are currently working with Principality officials in Monaco to finalize all the necessary authorizations for this event as they expect it to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the region. The Principality of Monaco is situated on the Mediterranean Sea in the south west area of Europe, some 1,400 km from Abraham’s home in Berlin and over 1,000 km from Froch’s native Nottingham, England.

“The intensity of the selection process for this venue speaks to the enormity of the moment created by the Super Six World Boxing Classic,” said Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “All the fighters in the tournament have set out to prove that they are the world’s best at 168-pounds by fighting their peers—the most dangerous men in the division—fight after fight. Any perceived advantage or disadvantage has been calculated.

“To the credit of all involved, each hurdle has been cleared and the Super Six World Boxing Classic now marches on toward a thrilling conclusion.”

This bout is the last of the Super Six Group Stage matches. Following Abraham vs. Froch, the four fighters with the highest point totals on the Super Six scoreboard will advance to the semi-finals, tentatively slated for the first quarter 2011.

Froch (26-1, 20 KOs) is coming off a hard-fought unanimous decision loss, the first of his career, to Mikkel Kessler on April 24. That night, during the post-fight press conference, Wilfried, and his son Kalle Sauerland and Mick Hennessy began publicly disputing the venue selection for the Abraham vs. Froch contest. At the time, Abraham (31-1, 25 KOs) held the tournament lead with three points by virtue of his KO win over Jermain Taylor in Group Stage 1, but was out boxed and ultimately disqualified in his Group Stage 2 bout versus Andre Dirrell for the first loss of his career. Froch remains tied at the moment with Kessler and Dirrell at two points.

“I cannot wait to get back in the ring,” said Abraham. “I am thrilled that the date and the venue have been set. I must admit that the disqualification against Dirrell still haunts me. Only a victory over Froch can put my mind at rest. I was ringside when he fought against Kessler and I must say I was impressed with both men. They really fought their hearts out. Froch is a hell of a fighter, but so am I. This will be the biggest, the most important fight of my career, and I will put on a special performance to please the boxing fans in Monaco, France, Germany, England, America and all over the world.”

“I’m training hard already for ‘King’ Arthur,” said Froch from his training centre in Sheffield. “I respect what the man brings to the table, but I’m going out there to knock Abraham’s crown right into Kalle’s lap,” he added in response to Sauerland’s bold predictions on the outcome of this fight.

“Make no mistake about it, I fully appreciate the threat that Abraham presents to me in this fight. Whenever two warriors go into battle there will be bloodshed. But there will be only one victor in Monaco and that will be The Cobra,” Froch concluded.

The Sauerlands are filled with anticipation. “The Super Six tournament has been outstanding thus far,” said Kalle. “We’ve had so much drama and so many high-class fights. Kessler versus Froch was as good as it gets but believe me, Abraham-Froch will be even better. It’s win or go home! I honestly can’t see this going the distance. I have a lot of respect for Froch as a fighter but I think that his style is tailor-made for Abraham. The King will knock The Cobra out – no doubt about that. The only question is in which round.”

Hennessy also expects a toe-to-toe war and believes the Englishman will come out victorious inside the distance “This is a mouth-watering match up against two of the best and toughest fighters in the game,” Hennessy said. “If you thought Carl’s last fight against Kessler was epic just wait for Froch vs. Abraham. This has all of the ingredients to be the fight of the decade.

“I have a lot of respect for Arthur in and outside of the ring, but unfortunately on the 2nd October he will come up against a highly driven and fully motivated Carl Froch. When Carl’s is in that sort of mode he will prove he is the best of the best and will secure three points for a knockout win, showing the world once again that he is a very special fighter.”

The Super Six World Boxing Classic continues on Saturday, Sept. 25, when SHOWTIME will present a world championship doubleheader to kick off Group Stage 3—the final Group Stage of the round-robin portion of the tournament. First, Kessler will look to lock up a semi-final berth with a win over Allan Green. Kessler is making the first defense of his second world title, the WBC 168-pound strap he wrested from Carl Froch. Green is desperate for a win to have a shot at the semi finals. He may need a knockout and/or help from his fellow competitors to earn one of the four spots.

Immediately following, live on SHOWTIME, Andre Ward will face 2004 U.S. Olympic teammate and friend Andre Dirrell in what promises to be a dramatic affair. Ward has already locked up his semi-final berth as the only contestant to win both of his initial Group Stage matches. But, make no mistake, Ward promises a fierce defense of his WBA world championship belt and undefeated professional record. Dirrell, on the other hand, needs a win to guarantee his place in the semis. Conceivably, Dirrell could get in with two points but he would need help from Green and/or Abraham.

Venue will be the Commerzbank-Arena Frankfurt, Germany, which will have a capacity of 54,000 on fight night. The Commerzbank-Arena is the home of German soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt. Alexander Povetkin, 2004 Olympic Champion in Athens, Greece, is rated #1 in the IBF and WBO rankings and the mandatory IBF challenger of Klitschko.

Wladimir Klitschko, Olympic Gold medalist 1996 in Atlanta, USA: „Alexander Povetkin is a very strong opponent. We are both Olympic Champions, which stands for itself. It will be a very tough fight, but I have no doubt that I will keep my titles. In the beginning of my career, I fought in Frankfurt twice and won. Now, I am looking forward to fighting in this fantastic stadium in front of a great audience..”

30-year-old Alexander Povetkin is unbeaten and lives in Chekhov near Moscow. His trainer is Teddy Atlas, former coach of ex heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Michael Moorer. In his career, Povetkin – „The White Lion“ – beat former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd as well as championship challengers Eddie Chambers and Ed Mahone.

Alexander Povetkin: „I had to wait pretty long for this chance and will now get Klitschko’s belts. Right now, I am training in the US with ten sparring partners, among them former world champions. This is the biggest fight of my career and I will be better prepared than ever before. Now it is my time, I am the future of the heavyweight division.”

It is Wladimir Klitschko’s 18th world championship fight. In his last bout in March, 34-year-old Klitschko defeated Eddie Chambers with a spectacular knockout in round 12 in Düsseldorf, Germany, in front of a sold-out crowd of 51,000.

Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of Klitschko Management Group (KMG): „The Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt is a gigantic stadium and I am very glad that we will have this top fight in this venue. Together with the management of the arena and our TV partner RTL we will arrange an unforgettable fight night.”

In Germany, the fight will be shown live and exclusively on RTL.
